The Year 4 and Year 5 students of St. Georges School were treated to a talk about Conservation of Water by the JKR Water Department on Tuesday, 25th July 2023. The talk was aimed to educate students and promote awareness about water; its sources and ways to conserve it.
Head of Primary, Teacher Alice Ting, began the event by introducing the speaker, Dayang Amal. She touched on different aspects of water in Brunei such as the sources of water, the different dams in Brunei, water usage and water leakages. Students were kept engaged throughout by watching several videos and participating in quizzes with prizes. The speaker also brought samples of treated and untreated water so students could see the difference between the two.
The students then took part in a 20-minute colouring activity in which they had to divide themselves into groups of three and colour a poster about water conservation, explaining one way they can save water. The talk ended with a prize presentation to the groups that had the best posters and group photo.
With the active engagement and participation by the students, it is hoped that the students had many takeaways from the talk and will continually perform the practice of conserving water in their daily lives.
