It was a joyous celebration held on a grand scale to welcome the arrival of the month of Syawal at St. George's School on Saturday 1st September 2012.
The celebration started with a 'Doa and Takbir Hari Raya Aidilfitri' recited by all Muslim male students of Year 6 up till Year 11, led by Ustaz Mohd Hafizzuddin bin Awg Masri and Cikgu Hj Mas Akmal Rizal bin Hj Taha. A religious speech was presented by Cikgu Norazaman bin Hj Mejenis.
In his welcoming speech, the principal, Mr Song Kin Fha reiterated that the school's annual 'Majlis Ramah Mesra Aidilfitri' helps strengthen the spirit of togetherness and the fostering of closer relationship amongst the teachers, parents and students who are of different ethnicities and nationalities. In his speech the principal also stressed that the teaching and learning process should not be confined only to classroom settings. Students should also be exposed to the different cultures and traditions of every person, in the school's quest to cultivate students who possess good moral values that promote awareness, understanding, appreciation and tolerance towards each other.
It has always been the school's stance that any major festival or celebration of a particular ethnic group in the school be celebrated in the spirit of togetherness.
The occasion was graced by the Chairman of the School Board of Governors, Mr Anthony Liew, spouse, other members of the School Board of Governors and invited guests. Also in attendance were the Deputy Principal, teachers, parents and students.
Parents, guardians and students participated in the joyous occasion by donating a wide array of delicious festive food, cakes and drinks. Not to be left out was the Kindergarten Section who joined the Primary and Secondary Sections in this joyous occasion. Teachers, parents and students, dressed in their finest Hari Raya costumes, took part in singing festive songs while enjoying their scrumptious meals. There were also prizes for the best dressed students and the best dressed teachers in traditional Hari Raya Attire. The highlight of the celebration was when students from all levels lined up to shake hands with teachers and at the same time took the opportunity to seek forgiveness from their teachers.
With festive Raya songs in the air, the celebration gave everyone, parents included, and a chance to mingle with and to greet each other in the spirit of Hari Raya.
