On 30th September, Sunday, St. George's School held a walkathon that saw enthusiastic participation from parents, staff and students as young as eight years old. The event aimed to raise funds for school facilities and the school's 'green' initiatives, with a percentage of the collection going towards a charitable organization.
In his opening remarks for the event, the Principal of St. George's School, Song Kin Fha, thanked all who have donated generously to the campaign. On top of raising funds, the Principal added that the walkathon was the latest among a series of sports events held by St. George's School in its effort to encourage students to participate regularly in sports activities. The Principal cited sports and regular exercise as an important contributing factor to a student's overall performance, as shown by research.
Prior to the walkathon, participants joined in a fun-filled warm-up session led by Ms. Sheeba Nepoilan, the Head of CCA. All who took part walked for an approximate distance of 5.5km, beginning and ending at the Hockey Stadium.
At the end of the walkathon, cash prizes were awarded to top three winners from various categories: Under-12 Boys and Girls, Under-15 Boys and Girls, Above-15 Boys and Girls, and Male and Female Parents.
