St. George's School held its Kindergarten Graduation & Merit Awards 2014 presentation day on 21 November 2014 at the Multi-purpose Hall, Fire and Rescue Department, Old Airport, Berakas. The occasion was graced by Yang Mulia, Pengiran Sarimah binti Pengiran Haji Ahmad, Head of Special Education Unit, Ministry of Education, the guest of honour. Among the invited guests and parents was Mr Charles Shim, a St. George's School Board of Governors member.
In the principal's message, Mr Janidi Jingan congratulated all KG3 pupils for successfully completing their kindergarten years at St. George's School. They have started their remarkable journey and have grown in so many ways, from a shy personality to a very confident individual. During their kindergarten years, they have learned many priceless lessons, not just in learning the 3Rs but also in learning to love and forming friendships. St. George's School places great emphasis in ensuring that our children are very well equipped to take on the next part of their educational lives, being confident and ready to start their primary education next year. In the same note, Mr Janidi Jingan took the opportunity to present merit awards to St. George's top students from all classes in recognition of their outstanding achievements in their academics and co-curricular activities.
The occasion began with the presentation of academic awards to Kindergarten 3, 2 and 1 students. Graduation Certificates were then awarded to all KG3 graduates. The School Merit Awards saw students from both the primary and secondary school receiving certificates for coming in first, second and third positions in their academic year. Merit awards were also presented to the school's top students in recognition of their outstanding achievements in the BGCE Cambridge 'O' Level 2013 examination. The recipients of this Outstanding Achiever Awards were Roslin Begam Syed Sirajudeen, Maxwell Tan Tai Khoon, Puah Shi Shuen, Caryl Joy N Latoja, Mohammad Ashmeer s/o Imtiaz, Mohamad Zulkamal Izzuddin, Roy Jules Michael Sulit Samson and Lau Shue Ean who also earned a scholarship to study the International Baccalaureate at Hua Chong International School, Singapore. Students who excelled in co-curricular activities that include those representing the school or state at national and international levels were also duly awarded. Six students in the primary school each received certificates for their achievement in the Islamic Religious Knowledge subject.
Certificates and trophies were presented to the school debaters who won the 'Most Promising Debate Team' Award in the 9th Swinburne Sarawak Inter-School Debating Championship 2014 organized by the Swinburne Debaters' Club.
Performances livened up the occasion as students from Kindergarten 3, 2 and 1 danced and sang. The audience were treated to an array of cultural and ballroom dances whilst the R&B group gave an energetic hip-hop dance. Four representatives from Kindergarten 3 gave their graduation and farewell speech before the finale which saw the Kindergarten 3 graduates singing their graduation song with zest and vigor.
This occasion marked the end of a very significant phase in life for the graduands and the beginning of the next most important phase of a new life in their pursuit of a primary and secondary education. To others it marked the recognition of and appreciation for their academic and co-curricular achievements.
