On the 13th and 14th of July, 2018, sixteen (16) teachers from Secondary, Primary and Kindergarten sections including a staff, attended the Occupational First Aid Course in St. George's School. This comprehensive first aid course was conducted by a well-trained officer, Mr Ahmad Akbal Adi Yusa Bin Haji Md Yusuf from Brunei Red Cresent Academy.
The session began with the introduction of ten modules which consist of responding to emergency, types of emergencies, category emergencies, emergency action plan and recognising emergency. In these two days, we were taught on the immediate actions to be executed when a person encounters with medical emergency in school and in public areas. First aid procedures that were taught included a proper bandaging method, mounting a victim with and without using a stretcher and how to engage and respond an emergency whilst keeping ourselves and other bystanders safe.
Throughout the sessions, we were immensely educated on these first aid procedures and gained plenty of knowledge as well as practical aid that we can apply in any emergency. By learning these simple but effective first aid techniques, as a teacher, we will able to save our student's life or threat for an injury and illness.
At the end of the course, we were tested on our understanding of the modules and were able to pass with an average score of 81% overall.
