Abel Lim is no ordinary Year 9 student of St. George's School. He is also a national athlete whose determination and excellence won a bronze medal for the nation!
During the 32nd Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games), which was held at the Chroy Changvar Convention Center in Phnom Penh, Cambodia last month, Brunei's wushu duo, Majdurano Joel bin Majallah Sain and Abel Lim Wee Yuan, saw a win in the Men's Duilian event. The two completed their round with a total of 9.283 points.
Our Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Nazmi bin Haji Mohamad welcomed our wushu athletes home and presented sashes to the medallists at the Brunei International Airport on Saturday, 13th May 2023.
St. George's School also honoured Abel with pride during our Monday morning assembly on 29th of June as Mr. Eugene called upon our bronze medallist, and our principal, Mr. Janidi Jingan, ceremonially decorated him with the medal. Students learned that morning that Abel had trained for many years before this momentous win, which Mr. Janidi highlighted and emphasised was key for the accomplishment.
Not only were fellow students encouraged last week, but the school also swelled with pride at the honour that one of the country's SEA Games 2023 medallists is a St. Georgian. Once again, the school congratulates Abel Lim on his win, and shall continue to cheer him on for all future competitions!
