The Primary Section of St. George's School held a Language Week from the 11th of September to 16th September 2023. Students from Year 1 to Year 5 were treated to a number of in-class activities for both the Malay and English subjects throughout the week. The Malay department conducted activities such as quizzes, tongue twisters and story-telling competitions whereas the English department conducted activities such as Show and Tell, General Knowledge quizzes, Poetry Recitation as well as story-telling.

The culminating event of the Language week was held on the 16th of September 2023 in the parish hall. The lower primary students saw video presentations of the week’s activities and had a poetry recitation for the English section, followed by tongue-twisters and story-telling competitions for the Malay section. The upper primary students on the other hand witnessed story-telling competitions from both the English and Malay section as well as a ‘Kahoot’ Quiz on General Knowledge for the English section.

Students were also encouraged to wear costumes of their favourite Book Character as part of the above-mentioned culminating event. Students were dressed up as all sorts of vibrant and colourful characters, such as the Mad Hatter and the Red Queen from Alice in Wonderland, Harry Potter, Cinderella, Peter Pan and Humpty Dumpty to name a few. Winners of the competitions were awarded, as well as the best dressed male and female students for both upper and lower levels. As evident from the loud cheers and active participation, students and teachers alike delighted in the festivities for the week; celebrating languages and having fun while doing so.
