As part of the school’s end-of-year activities, 35 Geography students from Years 9 and 10 embarked on an educational field trip to Seria in the Belait District on Monday, 11th November 2024. The journey began early in the morning, with the students and accompanying teachers departing from the school at 7:45 am and arriving at their destination by 9:00 am.
The main highlight was a visit to Tenaga Suria Brunei (TSB), Brunei's leading solar energy plant. Here, students learned how solar panels convert sunlight into electricity, enriching their understanding ahead of studying energy resources and sustainability in their future lessons. TSB is a testament to Brunei's commitment to sustainable energy solutions and is a key example of how solar power contributes to the national energy grid. The group also stopped briefly at the Billionth Barrel Monument, a historical landmark commemorating the production of the billionth barrel of oil in Brunei and symbolizing its economic history.
After a morning full of exploration and learning, the group paused for a quick lunch, allowing students to reflect on their experiences and bond with classmates. The trip aimed to deepen their understanding of key geographical concepts and provide an immersive learning experience beyond the classroom. Special thanks to the Department of Energy for hosting and sharing their expertise. We hope this trip has left a lasting impact on the students, sparking curiosity and encouraging them to think critically about future energy challenges and sustainable practices.
