St. George's School welcomed the Lunar New Year in a grand and vibrant celebration filled with cultural performances, student showcases, and the presence of esteemed guests. The event, held on 8th February, took place within the school grounds.
The celebration commenced with an energetic dance performance to set the festive tone. This was followed by an uplifting speech by the school's Principal, Mr. Janidi Jingan, expressing gratitude to the organizing committee, students, parents, and generous sponsors for their dedication to making the event a success. Celebrations such as Chinese New Year, stated the Principal, shows "Unity in Diversity", allowing students to experience the customs and festivities of other cultures. This year's celebration was formally opened by the Guest of Honour, Mr. Ong Tiong Oh, with a ribbon cutting ceremony. The Guest of Honour also donated a sum of Six Thousand Dollars to the school. A portion of the donation will be used for the upgrading of the teaching and learning facilities and Needy Student Fund.
As the celebration officially began, students took to the stage in festive dance performances ranging from secondary to primary and even kindergarteners. One of the most awaited moments of the day was the distribution of red packets, "hongbao", to all KG students as well as a Chinese calligraphy demonstration. The festivities concluded with a grand finale where all the performers came together for the last dance. The atmosphere was filled with joy, unity, and anticipation for the year ahead.
After the performances, all guests, students, and staff gathered for a group photo to commemorate the special occasion. This moment captured the unity and happiness shared during the celebration. Following the photo session, everyone was invited to enjoy a variety of festive refreshments. The informal gathering allowed students, teachers, and guests to mingle, exchange well wishes and reflect on the wonderful event.
With the closing of this event, St. George's School reaffirmed its commitment to promoting cultural heritage and inclusivity, ensuring that each celebration remains a meaningful and memorable experience for its students. The Chinese New Year Celebration was not just a festivity - it was a testament to the school's dedication to cultural appreciation and togetherness.
We wish everyone a prosperous and joyous new year ahead!
