On the early morning of 16th June 2025, ten St. Georgians from Years 9 and 10 boarded a bus to Temburong. The air was filled with chatter and excitement as they embarked on a four-day adventure designed to build leadership skills and strengthen teamwork through a variety of engaging activities and challenges.
RYLA, or the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards, is a programme aimed at empowering young people by developing their leadership abilities, confidence, and collaborative spirit through hands-on experiences. During the camp, students participated in a wide range of meaningful activities including ice breakers, creating team cheers and flags, playing captain ball, hiking, and showcasing their talents during the much-anticipated talent night.
In addition to the physical and creative challenges, participants attended insightful talks on financial planning and stress management, enjoyed a Japanese curry cooking demonstration, and contributed to artwork highlighting endangered species in Borneo.
RYLA is more than just a camp - it is a transformative journey that opens minds, strengthens spirits, and reveals the leader within. It encouraged personal growth in unexpected ways and served as a powerful reminder that with the right mindset, we are capable of far more than we realise. If you ever have the opportunity to join RYLA, take it - you’ll leave with new skills, lifelong friendships, and a renewed passion to make a difference.
