Ten of our students recently participated in the 21st International School Brunei (ISB) Borneo Global Issues Conference (BGIC), a prestigious four-day student-led event held from 10th to 13th April 2026 at the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Berakas.

This year’s conference centred on 'Sustainable Development Goal 7: Affordable and Clean Energy – How can international cooperation help secure SDG 7 more effectively?' The event brought together over 300 student delegates from 23 schools, including one school from overseas, providing a dynamic platform for thoughtful discussion, debate, and collaboration on one of today’s most pressing global challenges.

The conference was officially launched by Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah binti Pengiran Haji Salleh Ab Rahaman on Sunday, 12th April 2026 during an opening ceremony attended by distinguished guests, including Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Nazmi Bin Haji Mohamad, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, and Yang Berhormat Datin Seri Setia Dr Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Md Salleh, Minister of Education.

Keynote addresses were delivered by Mr Ken O’Flaherty, Acting British High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam, and Mr Tim Jarvis AM, a renowned British-Australian environmental scientist, explorer, author, and documentary filmmaker. Their insights challenged students to consider the global realities of energy sustainability and the importance of international cooperation in securing a cleaner future.

Throughout the conference, our students actively engaged in committee sessions, collaborated with peers from other schools, and contributed thoughtfully to General Assembly debates. The experience not only strengthened their public speaking and critical thinking skills but also deepened their understanding of global energy issues and diplomacy.

We are especially proud to share that one of our students, Jasper Oliver Tan of Year 11B, was awarded Best Delegate for his forum, an outstanding achievement that recognises his leadership, depth of research, and excellence in debate. This honour reflects the dedication and preparation of all our participating students, who represented our school with professionalism and integrity.

We commend our ten delegates for their commitment and enthusiasm throughout the four-day event. Their participation in BGIC demonstrates our school’s ongoing commitment to developing globally minded, informed, and confident young leaders.

Congratulations to all involved on a remarkable achievement.
