On the last day of the second school term, 14th June 2025, St. George’s School had the pleasure of hosting Mr. Joshua On Hung Zheng, an alumni, and partner and lawyer at a prestigious local law firm, who was the two-time President of the Law Society of Brunei Darussalam, and currently, the Vice President of said society. Mr. Joshua On gave a motivational talk to our Year 10 and Year 11 students, challenging them to shift their mindsets to know that they have the potential to be better than they think, and to not let failures discourage.

One of the main points that Mr. Joshua made was that it is not how students start, but how they finish that is important. He also told students that they must have a strong moral compass, as it will build their characters for their future. 

Students were also reminded not to give up despite the many tough and real demands of being a student in our current world, but instead to be ready to adapt to change. He reminded students of Thomas Edison, best known for the invention of the lightbulb, who said, “I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work”, and that they should view their failures in the same light. Mr. Joshua also emphasized that students should not let anybody define who they are.

To end, our students were given a critical thinking activity in which they had to work together as a team to survive a hypothetical shipwreck! “It really was a time of fun where we got to think outside of the box,” said Jin Yi from Year 11A.

On 23rd June 2025 – During this morning’s secondary school assembly, the spotlight was on Mohamad Adrian Mirza bin Mohamad Amin, a Year 9B student, who was proudly re-awarded for his outstanding performance at the 9th Brunei Open & Masters Swimming Championships (Short Course) held from 13th to 15th June 2025, organized by Persatuan Renang Amature Brunei.

Adrian competed in the Open Men’s category, showcasing exceptional skill and determination across multiple events. His impressive medal haul includes:

Fun River Cruise Adventure for Year 3 Students!

The Primary Section of St. George’s School, Bandar Seri Begawan, recently treated its Year 3 students to an exciting and educational river cruise on board MV Sentosa on 12th June 2025, blending adventure with learning in Brunei’s great outdoors!  

The young explorers embarked on a scenic journey along the Brunei River, where they marveled at lush mangrove forests and observed the unique stilt houses of Kampong Ayer. Along the way, they gained fascinating insights into Brunei’s rich riverine culture and vibrant ecosystem.  

A major highlight was spotting the legendary Jong Batu, a rock formation steeped in Bruneian folklore. The teachers brought the tale to life, sparking the students’ curiosity—their brilliant questions and eager participation made the experience even more enriching!  

Combining fun with education, the cruise was the perfect opportunity for the class to bond while discovering the wonders of their country’s natural heritage. With laughter, excitement, and endless discoveries, this unforgettable excursion proved that the best lessons often happen beyond the classroom.  

On 29 May 2025 – St. George’s School proudly celebrates an outstanding achievement by Nur Hannah Nabeelah bte Hj Muhammad Salzanaide/Addie of Year 10A, who clinched first place in the prestigious COSMO Photography Competition 2025, hosted by Cosmopolitan College of Commerce and Technology.

With the theme “The Spirit of Togetherness,” the competition challenged participants to encapsulate unity and collaboration through powerful imagery. Nur Hannah’s breathtaking photograph captivated the judges, showcasing her exceptional talent in composition, storytelling, and evoking emotion.

Competing alongside her were five talented students from St. George’s, all of whom demonstrated remarkable creativity in a contest that proved both challenging and rewarding. Their journey was supported by Teacher Afiqah Hanum binti Haji Murni, Secondary Art Teacher, who guided the students throughout the competition, helping them refine their artistic vision and techniques. Teacher Afiqah was also present at the award ceremony, celebrating their achievements and witnessing the well-deserved recognition of her students’ hard work.

Beyond the competition, the students engaged in an immersive photography workshop, refining their skills and gaining invaluable insights from experienced mentors. Their participation highlights St. George’s School’s dedication to nurturing artistic expression and encouraging students to explore creative pursuits beyond the classroom.

Nur Hannah’s triumph is a testament to the extraordinary potential of Brunei’s youth and serves as an inspiration to aspiring photographers. Her success not only brings pride to St. George’s School but also showcases the power of artistic storytelling in celebrating meaningful narratives through the lens.

On 27th May 2025 — St. George’s School is proud to celebrate the remarkable achievements of our Year 11 students from the Class of 2024, who were honoured today at the prestigious Student Excellence Award Ceremony organized by the Ministry of Education. The event took place at the Dewan Canselor, Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) and was graced by the presence of Yang Berhormat Datin Seri Setia Dr Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Md Salleh, Minister of Education, as the Chief Guest.

The ceremony recognized students across the nation for their academic excellence and dedication. Representing St. George’s School with distinction, three of our students received the Cambridge Outstanding Achiever Awards (COAA) for their exceptional performance in the Brunei-Cambridge GCE ‘O’ Level Examinations:

🏅 Jed Ng Xiang Zhe — First Place in Brunei and awarded Best Across Seven Subjects.
🏅 Tan Zheng Yan — Ranked Fourth in the (Top 10 in the World) for Computer Science.
🏅Mohammad Daffa Dany bin Abdullah Ali Hussin — Ranked Seventh in the (Top 10 in the World) for Computer Science.

On a drizzly Tuesday afternoon (20th May), excitement filled the air at St. George’s School as 38 students from Year 10B (Science Stream), along with a few from Year 10A (Art Stream), set off on a truly memorable educational outing to Pulau Berambang. This trip, part of their Chemistry studies on Fossil Fuels, was designed to give students a hands-on experience of Brunei’s natural resources and historical heritage.

The group departed shortly after their morning lessons, beginning their journey at around 1:00 PM. From school, they walked to the Jubilee Park Jetty, where four speedboats awaited to transport them across the Brunei River to the island—Brunei’s largest, yet still unfamiliar to many of the students, despite its proximity to the capital.

The outing was thoughtfully organised by Mr Aywen Chak, Head of Secondary and Chemistry teacher, whose dedication to experiential learning brought this adventure to life. He was joined by the school’s Principal, Mr Janidi Jingan, whose enthusiasm for nature and hiking was evident as he accompanied the students on the trail. Also supporting the group was Mr Luxman, Assistant Head of CCA, who helped ensure the smooth running of the trip.

The destination was Bukit Batu Bujang Pahang, a scenic hill on Pulau Berambang known for its lush greenery and historical significance. Along the way, students explored remnants of Brunei’s former coal mining industry—once the nation’s primary economic driver before the rise of oil and gas. Though the mines are now closed, traces of their existence remain, offering a powerful glimpse into the country’s industrial past.

As the group began their ascent, the skies opened with a light shower. But the rain did little to dampen spirits. Equipped with ponchos, refreshments, and a sense of adventure, the students pressed on with enthusiasm. The wet and muddy trail only added to the excitement, as laughter and teamwork echoed through the forest.

A special mention goes to Irvince and Gabrielle, both Year 10B students and proud members of the First Aid Club, who came well-prepared with first aid kits and ensured their classmates were supported throughout the hike. Their calm presence and readiness to assist added an extra layer of safety and reassurance to the group, embodying the spirit of leadership and care.

At the summit, the students were rewarded with a breathtaking view—misty treetops, the winding river below, and the quiet charm of Pulau Berambang’s small village, which, despite being disconnected from the mainland, is sustained by its own electricity and water supply and accessible only by boat.

For many, it was their first time visiting the island, and the experience opened their eyes to the beauty and history that lies just across the water. More than just a lesson in Chemistry, this outing was a celebration of learning, exploration, and friendship.

A heartfelt thank you goes to Mr Chak for organising such a meaningful experience, and to Mr Janidi and Mr Luxman for their unwavering support and guidance. This was a day that brought textbooks to life—and one that students will surely remember for years to come.

St. George’s School Class 10A Explores Creativity at “Spectrum” Art Exhibition, Universiti Brunei Darussalam

On 8 May 2025 – A vibrant group of 35 students from Class 10A of St. George’s School embarked on an inspiring educational journey to the Spectrum Art Exhibition at Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), accompanied by their dedicated teachers, Cikgu Hajah Afiqah Hanum and Teacher Rebecca Nicholas Elicay.

Held on 8th May 2025, the visit was designed to deepen students’ appreciation for the arts and offer them first-hand exposure to diverse forms of creative expression. Spectrum showcased an eclectic mix of artworks by both local and international artists, featuring paintings, sculptures, and multimedia installations that captivated the imagination.

The exhibition provided students with a unique opportunity to explore various artistic techniques, delve into visual storytelling, and reflect on the powerful role of art in shaping cultural identity and societal values. It also served as a catalyst for their own creative exploration and critical thinking beyond the classroom walls.

“This exhibition really opened our eyes to how art reflects identity and culture. It was both educational and inspiring,” shared one of the students.

This enriching experience is part of St. George’s School’s ongoing commitment to holistic education, integrating cultural and artistic engagement into the academic curriculum. The visit not only nurtured artistic appreciation but also encouraged cultural awareness, emotional expression, and intellectual development among the students.

The successful excursion to Spectrum stands as a testament to the school’s dedication to cultivating well-rounded individuals and empowering the next generation of creative thinkers.

On 14th May 2025, twenty-two enthusiastic students from Years 10 and 11 had the exciting opportunity to attend the Taiwan Education Fair, hosted by the LiuTai Association at Boon Pang Hall, Chung Hwa Middle School, BSB.

The event welcomed four distinguished universities from various provinces across Taiwan: Chinese Culture University, Hungkuang University, Nan Kai University of Technology, and National Chi Nan University. Each institution showcased a wide array of academic programmes, all offered at accessible and affordable tuition rates.

The fair served as a vital introduction to the dynamic landscape of Taiwanese higher education. Booths representing faculties in engineering, technology, business, humanities, and the arts were abuzz with curious students keen to explore degree options, course structures, and research pathways. University representatives were on hand to provide detailed brochures and offer personalised advice, answering a multitude of questions about admissions, scholarships, and student life in Taiwan.

As the students departed, their hands were full of brochures and souvenirs, and their minds were filled with inspiration and new possibilities. The Taiwan Education Fair had not only broadened their academic horizons but also opened a window into a vibrant culture and a future rich with opportunity. It was a meaningful step forward for those considering international education and a promising glimpse into what studying in Taiwan could offer.

The Rotary Club of Bandar Seri Begawan (RCBSB) hosted its annual Bursary Awards event yesterday at the Fuzhou Shiyyi Association building. This meaningful occasion celebrated the outstanding contributions of teachers and the academic achievements of students in the public examinations, while providing financial assistance to those in need through bursaries.

Teacher Lim Jen Erh was honored with the Best Teacher Award, while former student Jed Ng Xiang Zhe received the Best Student Award for his exceptionally outstanding results in the 2024 GCE O Level Examination. Additionally, six students were awarded financial assistance to support their education, a testament to RCBSB’s commitment to empowering young minds and fostering academic success.

We, the school community and parents, express our sincere gratitude to the RCBSB for their unwavering generosity and support. May this recognition inspire all award recipients to continue striving for academic excellence and working diligently to achieve their dreams.

19hb April, Jam 7.30pagi . Sekolah St George mengadakan Majlis Sambutan Ramah Mesra Aidilfitri pada sebelah pagi bermula kira-kira jam 8.00pagi. Tahun ini , sekolah mengabungkan pelajar-pelajar dari tadika, rendah dan menengah. Tujuan sambutan ini adalah untuk mendedahkan pelajar-pelajar suasana sambutan Hari Raya serta mengeratkan lagi silaturrahim dalam kalangan guru-guru bersama pelajar-pelajar. 

Aturcara majlis dimulakan dengan takbir raya yang diketuai oleh Cikgu Hasrin. Dan bagi memberkati majlis, Doa dibacakan oleh Ustaz Md Ihsan.  Kemudian diikuti dengan ucapan kata alu-aluan daripada Timbalan Pengetua, Cikgu N.M Mubarak. Bagi memeriahkan lagi majlis, pelajar-pelajar juga tidak ketinggalan membuat persembahan seperti Joget Raya dan nyanyian yang dipersembahan oleh pelajar-pelajar Rendah dan Menengah. 

Kemuncak majlis, sesi penyampaian paket raya yang disampaikan oleh Pengetua , Cikgu Janidi Jingan kepada murid-murid Tadika. Seterusnya, sesi bersalaman antara guru-guru bersama pelajar-pelajar sebagai penutup acara pada pagi tersebut. 

Dalam memeriahkan lagi majlis tersebut, pelajar-pelajar juga membawa juadah masing-masing untuk dikongsikan bersama. Pihak sekolah mengucapkan setinggi penghargaan terima kasih kepada ibu bapa atau penjaga pelajar yang memberi sumbangan makanan minuman dan juga idea dalam menjayakan majlis ini.
