The 32nd Annual Secondary Sports Meet 2023 of St.George's School was held at the field of the Berakas Sports Complex this morning Saturday on July 22, 2023.

In attendance on that day was the guest of honour, Yang Mulia Awang Julaihi bin Haji Mohamad/Mohamat, Acting Director of the Department of Co-Curriculum Education, Mr. Anthony Liew Vun Chiang, Chairman, and School Board of Governors.

During his opening speech, the principal of the school, Mr Janidi Jingan, emphasized the importance of committing the school to not only produce students with outstanding academic performances, but also well-balanced healthy individuals that can contribute to the country and society through sports.

He also brings to light a recent survey by the World Population Review 2023 on the growing concern of obesity among children in Brunei. Taking this into account, he further reiterated the relevance for students to strike a balance between their studies and engagement in sports in order to have a successful and healthy way of living. They were encouraged to not only abide in sportsmanship and camaraderie, but also do their very best whether the results determine victory or defeat.

The event started off with the marching of all the four hous es onto the field, followed by the singing of the national anthem.

Athletes were lined up for track events, which included the 100m, 200m, and 4x100m relay race, and sprinted under the scorching sun with amazing speed. This was followed by the long-awaited Tug of War Finals where boys and girls exhibited their teamwork and astonishing resilience. Students cheered for their teammates and the atmosphere was upbeat as everyone showcased their support for all the participants.

Winners for the events were announced and awarded medals by the guests of honor. The Green House eventually emerged as the Overall Champion House for 2023.

A profound sense of pride for the school was prevalent on that very day. This year's sports meet witnessed the enthralling performances and hard work put in by all teachers, staff, and students. Multiple hours of training and strenuous effort taken by the students and teachers will forever be inscribed in the history of St. George's School.
