By Roslynne Sii How Yi @ Roslynne Arina
Tue, 16 Apr 2019

On 13 April 2019, St. George's School (SGS) celebrated its 30th Annual Secondary Sports Meet at the Kebajikan Stadium, Berakas.

In his opening speech, the Principal, Mr. Janidi Jingan, expressed hope that the Sports Meet would not only commit students to a more active lifestyle, but the camaraderie born through teamwork would instill a greater sense of resilience and sportsmanship.

There to officiate the event was the Guest of Honour, Hajah Rosmah binti Haji Kadir, Senior Education Officer, Ministry of Education.

The Sports Meet came underway with the invitational relay that included athletes from Chung Hwa Middle School and St. Andrew's School. This was followed by a number of intraschool track and field events before concluding in the highly anticipated Tug-O-War Finals. To mark the Sports Meet's thirty-year milestone, female students have been allowed for the first time to compete in the event as well. The Red House won first place for the Tug-O-War Boys event while the Blue House claimed the honour of winning the very first Tug-O-War Girls event.

After all the points have been tallied, the esteemed title of Best Athlete is awarded to the students with the highest individual scores among all four Houses. The overall Best Athlete Girls for 2019 was a surprising tie between Kyla Marie Q. Vallesfin of Blue House and Hyde Natrisha binti Hijium of Red House. The overall Best Athlete Boys went to Ak Md Izzad Daraina bin Pg Azman of Yellow House.

In the end, it was Green House that emerged as the overall Champion House. The announcement was met with much cheer and celebration.

The Sports Meet was also attended by Mr. Anthony Liew, Chairman of the Board of Governors, Mr. N. M. Mubarak, Deputy Principal, teachers, students and parents.

There is no doubt that SGS will continue to celebrate the spirit of teamwork, resilience and solidarity in future Sports Meet.
