Kindergarten Graduation & Merit Awards

St. George's School held its Kindergarten Graduation & Merit Awards 2013 presentation day on 22 November 2013 at the Multi-purpose Hall, Fire and Rescue Department, Old Airport, Berakas. The occasion was graced by Yang Mulia, Awang Haji Abdul Rahman bin Haji Nawi, Acting Director, Curriculum Development, Ministry of Education. Among the invited guests were Mr Anthony Liew Vun Chiang, Chairman of the Board of Governors and other members of the school board of governors.

In the principal's message, Mr Janidi Jingan congratulated all KG3 pupils for successfully achieving their first goal in their life. He quoted a Chinese proverb, "a journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step". The transition phases from home to pre-school and then to primary school are important milestones in a child's development. . He also stressed that at St.George's School, the pupils have been nurtured, guided and equipped with the necessary skills in preparation for their primary education. He hoped that the pupils would continue to work hard and to achieve excellence in their studies in the years to come.

Mr Janidi also informed that the Merit Awards was an opportunity for the school to give recognition to the top students from all classes and levels, in recognition of their outstanding achievements in academic as well as co-curricular activities that include representing the school at national and international levels. In his speech, the principal spoke on the emphasis given to the achievements of the students by creating a positively competitive environment whilst instilling the passion for learning and the value of hard work; all in line with the school's Vision Statement 'To strive to become an excellent and reputable centre of learning'.

The presentation of academic awards began with the Kindergarten 1, 2 and 3 pupils. Graduation Certificates were then awarded to all KG3 graduates. The School Merit Awards saw students from both the primary and secondary school receiving certificates for coming in first, second and third positions in their academic year. Merit awards were also presented to the school's top students in recognition of their outstanding achievements in the Brunei Cambridge GCE 'O' Level 2012 examination. The recipients of this Outstanding Achiever Awards were Sia Pik Liang, Cindy Chung Cia Yung, Muhammad Haidhar bin Idris, Muhammad Nur'Izzat bin Haji Ibrahim and SD Raj Sunwar. Students who excelled in co-curricular activities that include those representing the school or state at national and international levels were also duly awarded. Six students in the primary school each received certificates and a book voucher for their achievement in the Religious Knowledge subject.

Performances livened up the occasion as students from Kindergarten 3, 2 and 1 danced and sang. The Secondary Speech Choir of St. George's Schoo which came in third in the 2013 Choral Speaking Competition, organized by the Co-curriculum Department, Ministry of Education, presented their winning choral speech. The finale of the occasion saw the primary and secondary R&B group giving an energetic hip-hop dance.

This occasion marked the end of a very significant phase in life for the graduands and the beginning of the next most important phase of a new life in their pursuit of a primary and secondary education. To others it marked the recognition of and appreciation for their academic and co-curricular achievements.
